Words Matter.

So, a little backstory here…I posted this a few days ago on IG and it was removed along with another post that named 5 influential writers who ended their lives by suicide. I called them The “Other” Writer’s Club. And no, the designated 24 hours that a story may run on the platform were not up.

Of course, I started to think about why the post would have been considered offensive? Should I have prefaced them with “September is National Suicide Prevention Month?”

Actually, National Suicide Prevention Week begins tomorrow and ends on September 14th, so I suspect that many will use this time to create greater awareness for this unsettling and rising epidemic.

Does talking about suicide create suicidal ideation ?

How do we improve a problem without discussing it?

Was the post uncomfortable to see? If so, for whom?

And why?

The stories that I create each contain different aspects of mental health (as do ALL stories) and I won’t stop…

Stay up, stay positive, and stay focused.

Hugs and blessings,

    1. Lots of hardened, weary hearted people out here…But God keeps reminding me who I amโ€”-through powerful and blessed people. I donโ€™t always swallow the pills they give me easily, but after time, I realize that theyโ€™re a vessel trying to guide me back to where I belong….๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

    1. We actually do need to have active discussions about suicide. Especially when you consider the number of children weโ€™re losing to suicide. It is very uncomfortable to talk about, but weโ€™re dealing with a real crisis here. Thanks for your feedback, Eilidh…๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ
